Amar Bail ( A tale of selfless love)

AOA dear reader, In this blog post, I am gonna share with you a summary & review of my all-time favourite Urdu novel “Amar Bail,” written by the legendary author “Umera Ahmed”. 

“AmarBail !”... Holly Allah! what an amazing, incredible and phenomenal novel that is! A perfect romantic tragedy with loads of information about the bureaucracy of Pakistan.  The details about the bureaucracy are so...so profound and well-researched that it makes you believe that the writer is a bureaucrat herself. (Which is not true)

“ Hats off to the writer.” (applause)

Believe it or not, I cried for four consecutive days after reading this & I am never gonna go back to it ( not enough courage:(

 For those of you who can not read the book, but are eager to know about the story, I will provide you with a quick summary of the Novel “Amar bail”

Amar Bail is another milestone in the successful career of Umera Ahmed. This literary work of Umera Ahmed does not only revolve around the lives of two individuals (belonging to the Elite class) but it fiercely unveils the atrocious bureaucratic system of Pakistan, social violence and above all, the traumatic experiences youths face as a result of mistakes made by their parents. (Mainly the impact of Divorce)

The novel starts with the introduction of Alizay Sikander, a young introvert who lives with her Grandparents, & secretly yearns for parental love. Her life takes a turn when her cousin, Umer Jahangir comes to live in her house.  Umera Ahmed beautifully pens down a perfect picture of a typical teenager having her share of flaws. I particularly loved Alizay's intense reaction to her heartache caused by zulqarnain. ( A guy who was trying to play with her innocence). The attempt to suicide & the change in her behaviour after the incident etc so... so realistic. ( But thanks to Umar who saved Alizay from him) *A sigh of relief.

 For Umar Jahangir, this character not only discloses major societal issues but also turns out to be an excellent example of selfless love.

With the help of this character, the writer sheds light upon the lust for power, imbalanced relationships and nepotism which ruin the lives & our society in general.

But amidst all this, the readers come across an undying affinity gradually growing between the two main protagonists (Aliza &  Umar). The rawest and heart-touching romance brews between Aliza and Umar. However, unfortunately, one of them dies & leaves the readers in shock.

The readers ( Like me) will cry buckets reading this novel. Where you are shown brutal societal policies, you will witness selfless love, and an eternal wish to see your beloved one joyful and strong.

For those who are looking for something romantic, heroically true and tragic, Amar Bail is a must-read for them.
